Colombia: Youth Camp “Growing Together”

GNRC Colombia accompanied a youth camp sponsored by “Growing Together” an organization that works with children and youth that have been affected by the violence in a high risk sector of the City of Bogotá.

Attending the camp were 40 youth ages 13 to 18. GNRC was invited to address issues such as respect and reconciliation with the youth. The workshop on respect was lead by a Menonite Church pastor member of GNRC who used the activity What I Stand For. This activity from the Learning to Live Together manual enables participants to share their opinions and ideas with each other, as they learn about the different ways of thinking about life, time, and respecting diverse ways of thinking.

GNRC youth coordinator implemented an activity called Peter’s Story to work on values such as empathy and reconciliation from the point of view of children. Valuable conclusions arose regarding living together and solutions to problems each participant perceived.

The youth camp was marked by the sense of joy, brotherhood and hope that is present wherever youth come together  to transform the world together.
