Celebration at Sabana Pérdida. In Santo Domingo, capital of this Caribbean republic, in the Sabana Perdida sector of the city, World Vision gathered Catholics and Protestants in a small celebration that was simple but highly symbolic. The event started with a prayer, placing before God the purpose of the celebration, and prayers were offered for the different situations affecting children around the world. Presently, the Vision and Mission of GNRC was explained to participants, and the closing was the Latin-American Prayer which was recited by a girl. The event made it possible to underscore the importance of children and their protection. At this event, an important achievement was to gather Catholics and Protestants in a single act of prayer.
From the Christian tradition, Rafael Azor Kelly spoke on the importance children have for the Kingdom of Heaven. His reflection was based on Matthew 18: 1-5: “At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, and said, ‘Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.”
He mentioned some of the qualities that adorn the lives of children and which we must possess in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Likewise, he mentioned the place that the little ones have in the heart of God, which shows the importance of worldwide networks on the lookout for their protection.
