Celebrating the World Day of Prayer and Action for Children, The GNRC AS Secretariat, the Ecumenical Studies Center, and the GNRC members in Jordan, joined together in an evening of prayer, contemplation and action.
The celebration was organized by the members of the Fisher Program; the GNRC youth group in Jordan, and witnessed the launch of the “Bag of Love” Campaign for the second year. The celebration started with a presentation about the activities and achievements of the “Bag of Love” Campaign in 2010. Afterwards, His Excellency ShekhHamdiMurad started the prayer with a supplication for the children of the world. Members of the Fisher Program followed with their prayers and wishes, and finally Rev. QaisSadiq concluded the prayers with a supplication asking everyone present to commit themselves to prayer and action for the well-being of Children.
The official launch of the “Bag of Love” Campaign followed, and the youth explained its rationale for this year. Last year the campaign aimed at gathering food donations for poor families and children. However, this year the need was greater for winter clothes and school books and stories. Representatives of various schools attended the celebration and offered to collaborate with the youth to make their Campaign a success. The gathering of clothes and books is now taking place in different schools in Amman and the donations will be distributed to orphanages and poor families.
The evening was concluded with a short speech by Rev. QaisSadiq on the significance of this day and its celebration all over the world. A small reception followed the formal celebration event.
The celebration took place on the 26th November 2011, a day that marked the Islamic New year. The Ecumenical Studies Center (ESC) in Amman hosted the celebration. Amongst the present group were academics, religious leaders, schools’principals and teachers, parents of youth, friends of the ESC, and representatives of GNRC member organizations in Jordan.
