Online Safety Training for Youth and Children

During the month of August, GNRC–Sri Lanka through Interfaith Initiative to End Child Poverty (End Child Poverty), conducted an online training for youth and children on the safe use of Internet. About eighteen (18) students were reached during the activity.

The aim of the training was to educate participants on constructive use of the Internet for learning purposes such as downloading study modules and inquiring about educational topics. The importance of social media particularly Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and YouTube were discussed, including online marketing and enhancing brand identity among others. Participants were also educated on abstaining from online sexual exploitation with its effects being broadly explored.

The negative use of the Internet particularly hacking and online black market were reviewed and participants were warned of the grave dangers they would face if they chose to engage in them. GNRC–Sri Lanka plans to train more students on online safety.
