International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP) – Rwanda

GNRC-Rwanda joined the world in celebrating the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP) on 17th October 2016. Approximately seven hundred participants including: – children, youth, teachers and religious leaders took part in the GNRC event held in Gacurabwenge Protestant Primary School, Kamonyi Sector, Southern Province, Rwanda.

Among the activities accomplished in the one-day event were: – sharing experiential stories on the effects of poverty, interfaith talks on poverty, cultural event to boost peace in the community and debates and discussions on child poverty and measures to eradicate it. Participants were sensitized on the importance of working together to promote peace and development so as to curb poverty.

This year’s International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP) themed ‘Moving from Humiliation and Exclusion to Participation: End Poverty in All Its Forms” is set to ignite a global awareness and advocacy towards achieving sustainable solutions to ending poverty across the world by 2030, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event was an opportunity for reflection, advocacy and action against child poverty and its associated challenges. Together, all the people of Rwanda can take action to end child poverty and build a better world for children.
