The conflict by militant groups such as the Boko Haram in the Northern part of Nigeria has resulted in a huge influx of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in major towns. Durumi Area 1 Camp in Abuja, hosts 2,740 people with about 850 women. Majority of the IDPs especially women and girls lack a decent livelihood leading to rampant cases of sexual abuse. As a result, a third of the girls’ in the camp between the ages of 14 – 18 years are currently pregnant with their first or second child. These child mothers cannot fend for themselves let alone their children.

GNRC-Nigeria in partnership with the COFP Foundation, trained eighty (80) women and girls from the camp on vocational skills over a two weeks period. The trainees graduated with certificates and skills in bakery and production of industrial products like disinfectants, body creams, liquid soap, and air fresheners. Each of them was further issued with a start-up kit.
