On behalf of the GNRC members across Asia, and around the world, we express our profound sadness at the passing of Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne, Founder of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement. He was a founding member of the GNRC and played a critical role in the advancement of the Network in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region after its inauguration in 2000.

Ari, as we all fondly called him, was not only a father figure but also a beacon of inspiration for us all. Ari was a role model and a true visionary.

The passing of Dr. Ariyaratne leaves a profound void, not only in Sri Lanka but throughout Asia and beyond. He was a legendary peacemaker, a tireless advocate for community service, lifting many out of poverty. His life exemplified unwavering dedication to humanity, and his legacy of equanimity resonates deeply with all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

On behalf of the GNRC network, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Ariyaratne’s family, the Sarvodaya fraternity, and the countless individuals whose lives were touched by his compassion, wisdom, and boundless love.
