A Growing Movement for a Sustainable Future

Engage & Share, GNRC Cote d’Ivoire’s anchor organization hosted an environmental awareness workshop for children, supported by and hosted by the GNRC Youths. Held in Grand Lahou, the event equipped 43 participants with practical knowledge and hands-on skills to advocate for environmental protection in their communities.
The workshop started with a session inviting children to share their understanding of the environment. To engage them and set the stage for an interactive session, facilitators introduced the ‘Environmental Superhero Game,’ in which each child had to identify an element of nature they wished to protect and choose a superpower to help them accomplish that.
The children were introduced to the 4Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recover. With the guidance of the facilitators, the children explored the 4 Rs and discussed how to minimize harm to the environment by reducing waste through reusing materials. They also engaged in a hands-on recycling activity in which each child was tasked with transforming plastic bottles into applicable kits.
Acknowledging the need for intergenerational cooperation to protect the environment and the role of families in promoting responsible lifestyles and instilling sustainable practices at home, the workshop also engaged parents. Together with the children, they reflected on the consequences of environmental neglect and looked into actionable steps towards creating a greener future.
As the event concluded, each child present pledged to become an advocate for environmental awareness and promised to share their knowledge with their classmates. The participants also called for more similar workshops to deepen children’s involvement in long-term environmental conservation and advocacy.
By instilling eco-conscious habits early, GNRC Côte d’Ivoire is cultivating a generation of environmentally responsible citizens, proving that small hands can make a big difference in building a sustainable world.
