Argentina: DPAC for the rights of adolescents in conflict with the law

The World Day of Prayer and Action for Children took place on December 15, with the participation of 200 children and 180 adults and was an inter-faith celebration including Christian churches, Bahá'í  and Muslim Communities. However, related ethics education activities have taken place throughout the year.

The Local Council for Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Children and Adolescents at Pilar participated in the celebration. This organization includes children from the community, local government representatives, and others. The Pilar youth have participated in the “Youth and Memory” workshops this year; they have been visiting the Pablo Nogues detention center. During one visit they provided non-violence training to 26 intern youth ages 16 to 18 at the center.

On November 29 and 30 training workshops prepared 200 youth with tools and techniques to coordinate workshops in Culture of Peace.

On the December 15 celebration  youth from different organizations and participating institutions implemented the activities with the motto: “Bridges to Fully Apply the Law that Guarantee them” They presented projects to help children and youth. There were street bands, theatre presentations and dialogues on Human Rights where passersby could participate. There was also a video conference sharing the Day of Prayer and Action activities with viewers. And there were Christmas carols.
Participating organizations from the government and NGOs working on children's rights included the Ministry of Education, SERPAJ, Local Councils, Public Schools, “Envion” (Boost) Program for Youth inclusion, Entrepreneur Network, and GNRC Argentina. The local government expressed the desire to deepen actions regarding for instance the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
