Message by the GNRC Secretary General on the International Day of Peace, 2021

Every year on the 21st September, the world commemorates the International Day of Peace. This is an important day for humanity. The theme for this year’s International Day of Peace is, “Recovering better for an Equitable and Sustainable World.”

We are in the midst of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic that has also affected all aspects of our lives. Children are the most affected, with millions of hours lost in schooling. The rate of school dropouts due to lack of sustenance is alarming. Families have lost their sources of livelihoods as economies are ravaged by the pandemic. We must show solidarity.

Engaging Children in the Prevention of Violent Extremism in Mombasa, Kenya

Women from the, “Building Family Resilience Against Violent Extremism: Women of Faith in Action,” Project in Mombasa organized a two-day children’s forum on 6th and 7th of August 2021 to reflect on the vital role of youth in promoting peace and preventing violent extremism in the community. The forums which focused on children and youth living in informal settlements, directly reached 300 learners in Nyali and Kisauni Constituencies of Mombasa County.

GNRC–Kenya Formalizes a Country Committee

On 13th August 2021 GNRC members in Kenya convened virtually to formalize a GNRC Committee in the country. A total of twenty one (21) participants attended the event, which was organized by the GNRC Country Coordinator, Kenya, Sh. Ramadhan Aula. In attendance to the meeting was the GNRC Secretary General, Dr. Mustafa Y. Ali.

During the meeting the Country Coordinator shared that the purpose of having a country committee was to streamline coordination of grassroots work, link up members’ work and ease up monitoring of activities and programs.
