The Equity Group Foundation (EGF) has had great impact on the education of children from poor families in Kenya. This year 2016 alone, 2,000 bright and academically gifted children are expected to benefit from the foundation’s secondary school scholarships program, out of a staggering number of 20,300 applicants.

Dr. Dorcas Kiplagat, GNRC Network and Programs Coordinator was privileged to participate in the selection of the beneficiaries in Baringo County, as a member of the District Scholarship Selection Board (DSSB). The Equity Bank Manager, Kabarnet appealed to individuals and organizations to support those who will not qualify for the scholarship through the foundation saying they were equally needy, and might miss secondary school education. His statement echoed the sentiments of Dr. James Mwangi, the EGF Executive Chairman and also the Chairman Kenya Vision 2030. Speaking at a different forum, he worried about the fate of those applicants whose applications will not succeed saying, “The high number of applicants shows the level of academically gifted pupils meeting the high score and who cannot afford to pay for their secondary school education. This means that the country stands to lose this great manpower if we don’t join hands and support them to go to secondary school. As a country we need to come together and find ways of arresting this situation. These are the brains that the country needs to nurture for the future of our nation.”
