Leer en castellano…As part of the preparatory activities for the World Day of Prayer and Action for Children (DPAC), the GNRC held the First National Encounter to Share Experiences , September 10 & 11 this year.
There were 29 participating, from 7 communities of faith and projects: Buddhist Community, Mennonite Church, Methodist Church, Episcopal Anglican Church, Islamic Community, “Creciendo Juntos” Project, American School of Barranquilla. Participants were able to exchange experiences in constructing peace that each of their communities are involved in, and to undertake joint preparations for the 2011 DPAC.
Learning to Live Together Manual activities – such as Painting T-shirts, Theme Weeks, among others – enabled everyone to reflect on our interconnectedness, and the importance of overcoming violence by working together and through ethics education.
The agenda was full of recreational activities that put us in each others’ shoes; we shared a cultural exchange evening; and we made concrete plans to fulfill this purpose.
DPAC 2011 will be part of a series of theme-weeks, including raising awareness of the importance of Children’s Rights; recognizing themselves as subjects of rights; and their visibility based on an action that the children, adolescents and youth will be carried out at the community and local level.
Finally, on November 12 we will come together for a day of joint prayer for children, and Sunday November 20 each church and community will pray for children.
