The day is an opportunity for public and private partners to spread awareness about the status of the disease and encourage progress in HIV\/AIDS prevention, treatment and care in high prevalence countries and around the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since it\u2019s launch in 1988, a tremendous amount of progress has been made in reducing the stigma still faced by many, and the number of people dying from Aids-related illnesses since the first cases were reported. The theme of this year&#8217;s event is \u2018Hands up for HIV Prevention\u2019.
