On 27th \u2013 28th April 2018, GNRC\u2013Sierra Leone distributed school learning materials to vulnerable children in Freetown. Forty five (45) children benefited from the charity with each child receiving school uniform, shoes and a school bag. The children were accompanied by their guardians to the event.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The activity sought to respond to GNRC\u2019s priority area on ending child poverty as a step towards securing their future. By ending poverty, violence against children is also prevented and children\u2019s resilience is built, leading to a just and peaceful nation. Poverty in Sierra Leone is widespread and has had devastating results on the people and its economy. According to Washington State University, 60% of Sierra Leone\u2019s population live below the poverty line and is now officially the world\u2019s poorest country.<\/p>\n

Apart from supplying school learning materials, GNRC\u2013Sierra Leone plans to contribute to the national campaign on ending poverty by educating the community on entrepreneurship skills to help them sustain their lives. GNRC also seeks to encourage and support the community to invest in agriculture and modern technology that can help shape the country\u2019s progress in future.<\/p>\n
