In line with commemorating the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP), GNRC–DR Congo together with BIFERRD organization conducted two consultative meetings with the Kinshasa community including children and youth on 17th October 2018; a focus group discussion with the deprived families of Eastern DR Congo, and another consultation with religious leaders, professionals, parents and caregivers to seek sustainable solutions to ending poverty.

A two-day stakeholders conference on Deradicalization, Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism discussed some of the most pressing challenges facing the people of frontier counties including: Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Moyale and Isiolo; as well as residents in Ethiopia and Somalia bordering them. The theme of the conference, ‘Stepping up community-led counter terrorism and deradicalization efforts to combat violent extremism,’ was the basis of the discussion. It was observed that terrorism and violent extremism had stunted growth and development, and prevented many children and young people from accessing quality education.

Search For Justice, a member of the GNRC, organized a dialogue workshop in collaboration with the Institute of Communication Studies, University of the Punjab on October 2018 to discuss the role of media in preventing violence against children. Eighty (80) students from the department attended the dialogue session. Senior journalists, the head of the Institute of Mass Communication, and the Executive Director, Search For Justice participated as panellists.

Search For Justice, a member of the GNRC, organized a media briefing on 17th October 2018 at Lahore Press Club, Pakistan to observe the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP). During the briefing the need for social protection as a basic human right for children as enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC Articles 26-27) was discussed. “Based on the Convention, children have the right to social security and an adequate standard of living, both of which can be guaranteed for children and families who live in poverty through publicly-funded social protection programs,” noted Ms. Rashida Qureshi of Search For Justice.

Commemorating the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty would not have been attained in Kenya without ‘spreading love’ at a children’s home. Arigatou International – Nairobi in partnership with Centre for Sustainable Conflict Resolution (CSCR), a member of GNRC, visited the Good Samaritan Children’s Home and Rehabilitation Center in Mathare, Nairobi, Kenya on the 19th of October 2018.

The Executive Director, Search For Justice, Mr. Iftikhar Mubarik and Director Legal, Mr. Atif Adnan Khan represented GNRC–Pakistan in a national television talk show to discuss matters peace and conflict resolution in Pakistan. The two were invited to a live panel discussion in Lahore News on 17th October 2018 to share their opinions and strategies on ending all forms of violence against children.

The U.A.E. Government will host the Interfaith Alliance Forum in U.A.E, Abu Dhabi on 19th and 20th November 2018, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the U.A.E. Armed Forces. The announcement was formally made during the Press Conference organized by the U.A.E. Government at the Ministry of Interior headquarters on 24th September 2018, in which the Arigatou International Advisory Group Member, Sh. Ibrahim Lethome, was invited to take part.
