The emergence of the internet has broadened accessibility to information and revolutionized networks and communication spaces. Today it has become part and parcel of our lives. The exponential rise in the use of social media and digital technology exposes young people to many risks.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP)

Association Conseil de la Paix led oth- er GNRC members to commemorate IDEP on 14th October 2018 at Maison de l’emploi, Comoros. The event sought to listen to children and get their perspective on poverty. GNRC–Comoros partnered with National Commission of Gender and Solidarity under the Ministry of Public Health, and the Office of Grand Mufti of Comoros. 37 participants including 20 children and 17 adults participated in the event.

Under the Family Resilience Project; Arigatou International – Nairobi in partnership with GCERF conducted 2 women trainings on peacebuilding on 22nd – 24th November 2019 in Kamukunji, Nairobi and 2nd – 4th December in Nyali, Mombasa. The PVE training workshops brought together a total of 40 women teachers and faith leaders from Kamukunji and Bombolulu constituencies of Kenya. The forum took the form of training sessions, women-led discussion groups, reflective sessions, plenary presentations, and a practicum on designing an intervention to prevent and counter violent extremism (P/CVE).

The African Union Commission (AUC) hosted the Global Summit to Tackle Online Child Sexual Exploitation on 11th and 12th December 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The summit was sponsored by the UK Government and the WeProtect Global Alliance. AUC, one of eight regional member organizations was invited to join the new Board of the WeProtect Alliance during the summit.

In its continued efforts to actively involve women in Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE), Arigatou International–Nairobi builds women’s capacity to educate children and young people against radicalization into violent extremism. On the 2nd December 2019, Arigatou International–Nairobi in partnership with the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) formally launched the, “Building Family Resilience: Women of Faith in Action,” project in Mombasa, Kenya. This was two months after an equivalent project had been launched in Nairobi to run simultaneously with the one in Mombasa.


The Executive Assistant to Rev. Keishi Miyamoto, Mr. Hironari Miyamoto together with the Secretary General, GNRC, Dr. Mustafa Y. Ali, represented Arigatou International in an international high-level conference on Initiatives for the Effective Protection of Child Dignity in the Digital World on 14th and 15th November 2019 at the Casina Pio IV, headquarters of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, in the Vatican Gardens.
