GNRC youth member in Uganda, Mr. Patrick Nicholas Barasa, was privileged to be one of the convenors and facilitators at a Conflict Transformation Training conducted by the Uganda Youth Interfaith Network from 27th – 30th August 2019. The workshop, which took place in Rwamwanja Refugee settlement in South-western Uganda, targeted 30 youth, selected amongst the refugees and host community. The initiative is supported by UNDP and Religions for Peace.


GNRC Member in Nepal, Peace Service Centre, formally launched the 2nd Phase of the Nepal Poverty Solutions in Dang, the western part of Nepal with a series of activities being conducted from 26th – 29th August 2019. The Peace Service Centre had initially implemented the Nepal Poverty Solutions in Katmandu in 2018 which was inspired by the International Practicum for innovative solutions to End Child Poverty, a children-led initiative to end child poverty. The Director of Arigatou International – End Child Poverty, Rev. Fred Nyabera, graced the event. Rev. Nyabera was accompanied by the Manager, End Child Poverty Knowledge Centre in Sri Lanka, Ms. Kavitha Vijayaraj.


Search For Justice and Children Advocacy Network – CAN Pakistan, a GNRC Member in Pakistan, organized a child-led peace walk in Lahore, Pakistan on 28th August 2019 to highlight the need for safety and wellbeing of the children and families in Kashmir to be protected. A total of 100 children, accompanied by their teachers and CAN Pakistan officials participated in the peace walk.

As the world prepares to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in September 2019, four GNRC youth from Cameroon, Ecuador, India and Pakistan have been actively developing and implementing activities addressing the CRC. The four young leaders are working together with their local GNRC network in organizing activities that aim to create a better world for children and youth.

GNRC Member in Germany, Jugend, Bildung und Kultur e.V., partnered with Sustainable Rural Community Development Organization, Malawi to conduct two youth exchange programs, between 8th – 24th April 2019 and 5th – 20th August 2019, under the theme, “Act for Society.” The program, which took place in Chikwawa aimed at empowering young people in active participation, decision-making and inclusion skills. Forty eight (48) young leaders from Germany and Malawi came together to learn and exchange ideas. They discussed the most burning issues affecting youth and children in their countries and possible solutions to address them.

Between 5th and 12th August 2019, Jugend, Bildung und Kultur e.V, GNRC Member in Germany, conducted a media training workshop for 31 youth leaders and workers in Velbert, Germany. The meeting sought to equip youth with ICT related skills that will expose them to diverse career opportunities in information technology. The training also fostered digital competences in youth work.

On 23rd – 29th July 2019, Jugend, Bildung und Kultur e.V., GNRC Member in Germany, partnered with GEYC from Romania, BYF from Bulgaria, SYTEV from Slovakia, LUMEN from Croatia and Youth Dynamics from Cyprus, to conduct a training workshop, ‘Souls without Frontiers,’ for young leaders on dealing with matters peace and integration. The event, which took place in Velbert, Germany, was attended by 32 participants from 12 countries in Europe who are volunteers and youth workers mainly working with refugees, migrants, minorities and other vulnerable groups. Other organizations supporting the training included Copenhagen Youth Network from Denmark, DEL-ALFOLDI EUROTENDER from Hungary, STOWARZYSZENIE NA RZECZ DZIECI I MLODZIEZY USKRZYDLAMY from Poland, Pi Youth Association from Turkey, and FNEE from Portugal.
