On the 16th of May 2020, GNRC women peacebuilders and youth together with health workers from Mombasa County of Kenya sensitized the community of Bombolulu on COVID-19. A total of 1,057 people including children and youth benefited from the outreach. The event aimed at imparting knowledge to the community on the pandemic and on its potential to increase online radicalization and exploitation of children and youth, and ways to prevent those effects. The participants were encouraged to educate other members of the community to promote awareness and understanding about the pandemic and its associated effects.

Under the Family Resilience Project, the GNRC in partnership with the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) brought together public health workers, with women leaders and youth trained in peacebuilding from the Kamukunji Community Peace Network (KACPEN) to sensitize the community on COVID-19. The activity, which took place in Kamukunji, Nairobi on 17th May 2020, sought to sensitize the community on safeguarding their children and youth from online exploitation especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

There is a Jewish story about a child who went to the synagogue to pray. He did not know the words of the traditional prayers, so he sat down in the back and started to sing the alphabet. After a few minutes, the adults of the synagogue asked him: “Why are you singing the alphabet?”
