GNRC–South Africa together with Religions for Peace held their fourth peace forum on 23rd October 2018 in Durban, South Africa with a total of 55 participants including children, youth, teachers and parents. The children and youth came from: Holy Family College, St. Francis College, Youth Inter-Active and New Forest High School. The aim of the forum was to nurture spirituality and build children’s capacity to end violence against children and promote child-upbringing.

The challenges that children and People living with Albinism (PWA) face are saddening. Their fundamental rights are violated and they are marginalized and persecuted because of their physical differences and their lives are at risk due to superstitious beliefs and practices within societies. There is evidence showing that social processes and practices severely affect children with albinism and as such they face significant ‘barriers to being’, most serious being their right to life and protection and the right to freedom from discrimination.

GNRC Member "UŽ Mozaik" partnered with Interfaith Initiative to End Child Poverty to commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP), through conducting workshops between 17th and 29th of October 2018 with participation of children and religious leaders under the theme, “Together We Can Eradicate Poverty in the World.”

In line with commemorating the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP), GNRC–DR Congo together with BIFERRD organization conducted two consultative meetings with the Kinshasa community including children and youth on 17th October 2018; a focus group discussion with the deprived families of Eastern DR Congo, and another consultation with religious leaders, professionals, parents and caregivers to seek sustainable solutions to ending poverty.

A two-day stakeholders conference on Deradicalization, Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism discussed some of the most pressing challenges facing the people of frontier counties including: Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Moyale and Isiolo; as well as residents in Ethiopia and Somalia bordering them. The theme of the conference, ‘Stepping up community-led counter terrorism and deradicalization efforts to combat violent extremism,’ was the basis of the discussion. It was observed that terrorism and violent extremism had stunted growth and development, and prevented many children and young people from accessing quality education.

Search For Justice, a member of the GNRC, organized a dialogue workshop in collaboration with the Institute of Communication Studies, University of the Punjab on October 2018 to discuss the role of media in preventing violence against children. Eighty (80) students from the department attended the dialogue session. Senior journalists, the head of the Institute of Mass Communication, and the Executive Director, Search For Justice participated as panellists.
