In the Eastern and Horn of Africa, as is the case in South Asia and Middle East, more and more young people are being recruited into violence by extremist groups and organizations. Women and girls have also been lured into terrorism.

Each year the International Day of Peace (IDP) is observed on 21st September. The UN General Assembly has it as a 24-hour period of non-violence and cease-fire. The 2020 theme was, “Shaping Peace Together.”

With the promotion of peace underscored in the theme, this year promoted a clearer ground to suppress a common enemy – a global virus that threatens our health, security and way of life. The Peace Day united organizations and individuals on a call to promote and spread compassion, kindness and hope as the world recovers from the deadly COVID-19 virus.

As a buildup to the United Nations International Day of Peace, GNRC¬–South Africa together with the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) and other civil society organizations launched the Zimbali Zonke Garden4Life project on 19th September 2020 during a children’s interfaith day camp.

To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations (UN), the Multi-Faith Advisory Council to the United Nations Interagency Task Force on Religion and Development (UN–MFAC) convened a global online conference, "Faith in the UN: Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations and looking to the future," on 8th September 2020.

ONG BIFERD DR Congo in partnership with the Baptist Ministry in North Kivu facilitated a training for 64 Baptist Church youth on COVID-19 prevention. The training, which took place on 23rd August 2020 in Goma, DR Congo, aimed at empowering youth with information and building their resilience against the pandemic.
