Building Momentum towards the 30th Anniversary of the CRC

As the world prepares to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in September 2019, four GNRC youth from Cameroon, Ecuador, India and Pakistan have been actively developing and implementing activities addressing the CRC. The four young leaders are working together with their local GNRC network in organizing activities that aim to create a better world for children and youth.

At only 16 years old, Ms. Bertsy Nahsang Njombombo, a young leader in Santa, Cameroon, is conducting awareness sessions for children to learn their fundamental rights and responsibilities. With the support of the GNRC Network in the country, Ms. Njombombo has been leading small gatherings with children from her church and her neighborhood to promote the rights of the child as part of the commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the CRC.

Ms. Sofia Urbina (18 years old) is conducting a series of radio broadcasts on the rights of the child in Quito, Ecuador, as part of a global campaign to commemorate the CRC. Through the support of GNRC Coordinator in Ecuador, Mr. Marco Laguatasi, and other GNRC Members in the country, Ms. Urbina uses her radio program at CAT–LICA Radio to promote child rights in her country, with a participation of local leaders on a weekly basis.

Mr. Aakash Ramankutty (17 years old) is committed to promote the rights of children and young people in Coimbatore, India. For the past few months he has been visiting local schools and gathering children in his community to reflect about their fundamental rights, as part of the global campaign to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the CRC.

17-year-old Ms. Saman Paul has been leading engagements in Wah Cantt and Islamabad, Pakistan, to promote the rights of the child. In the months of July and August 2019, she visited a local orphanage and organized a painting workshop for twenty eight (28) children. The workshop was an opportunity for Ms. Paul to empower the children on their basic rights and to reflect on them.
