Workshop with Senior Police Officials on Child Protection, Pakistan
GNRC–Pakistan through its partnering organizations, Search For Justice and CAN Pakistan, conducted a workshop for senior police officials on 27th April 2018 in Lahore, Pakistan. The meeting dubbed, “Workshop with Police Officials on Legal Framework of Child Protection and handling of Child Abuse Cases,” aimed at analyzing the implementation of child rights and child protection laws as per international obligations. The Australian High Commission in Pakistan also supported the workshop.
Forty five (45) police officials, both male and female from Gender Based Violence Cell of Lahore attended the event. The workshop explored the Criminal Law (Second Amendment) Act 2016 and evaluated the Punjab Destitute and Neglected Children Act 2004 and functions of Child Protection and Welfare Bureau.
Mr. Syed Abdulrahim Sherazi, Superintendent of Police (SP) CRO- Lahore Police, who chaired the workshop and represented the police, lamented the fact that half of the world’s children endure physical, psychological or sexual violence and as security enforcers, they must be accountable for preventing such crimes. He added that he believes in the power of community cooperation through its stakeholders such as government, international and grassroots organizations and faith institutions in transforming the world.
The Chief Guest, Mrs. Saba Sadiq, Chairperson, Child Protection and Welfare Bureau Government of the Punjab, appreciated the organizers for empowering security officials with information and skills to prevent violence against children.
