Community Resilience Against Violent Extremism Activity in Nairobi

Youth from at-risk areas of Nairobi gathered to learn and discuss about causes of violent extremism.

On June 28th, GNRC partner ‘Peaceful Innovation Organization’ (PIO) held an activity with the theme countering violent extremism at the Matopeni Church, Nairobi, in which 30 youths participated.

The event opened with prayers, after which PIO presented to the youth the organization’s objectives, it’s mission and vision and their programs. CRAVE2Youth gathered to propose strategies to counter violent extremism at the community level.

The discussion centered on the problems faced by Muslims in Nairobi, their stigmatization by the local authorities and the general population. The root causes of violent extremism were also examined and analyzed by the youths and empowering strategies to counter violence were laid out.
