GNRC Youth implemented activities for the celebration of DPAC around the world

The GNRC Youth have been very busy preparing to implement a number of activities for the celebration of the World Day of Prayer and Action for Children, coinciding on the Universal Day of the Child. Our GNRC Youth are the driving force under numerous activities that help to create a better world for children and we are so proud of their work!

Take a look at some of the activities that took place in and around 20th November of 2013
 

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT THERE'S A WAY OUT (PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE)


The GNRC Europe and Sixth Sense, a youth focused group that promotes intercultural understanding and peace building, hosted a  two day event with the theme of stopping violence against children and peer- to- peer violence.
The objective was  to establish and strengthen dialogue, tolerance and mutual understanding between the youth and children from different religious and ethnic groups from Doboj and surrounding towns as well as to foster better understanding and strengthening of parent- child relationships and preventing violence against children.

YOUTH WORKSHOP ON LEARNING TO LIVE TOGETHER in the City of Visoko

The objective of this workshop was to reflect on the importance of mutual respect and understanding in children's lives.
There was a Positive Parenting and Non-Violent Discipline Panel discussion with parents,teachers,representatives of the Islamic community and from the Centre for Social Work.

Youth and other participants also expressed their solidarity with children living in difficult situations


Approximately 300 children of different  primary school assisted to the workshop. Through creative workshops (LTLT methodology) and sports tournaments in different sports disciplines, they celebrated "Children's Day". 

PORTUGAL

WORKSHOP IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN PORTO
 
Rita, a GNRC Youth member, was the driving force under this acitivity that resulted from the  collaboration of the MDV Defence Movement Life, IPSS and the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People at risk of Eastern Porto with the Global Network of Religions for Childrens.

Events were held at several schools, and discussions emphasized the need for the children of the world to access  their rights.

In the High School Our Lady of the Rosary, various activities taking place throughout the day, including prayers that involved the entire educational community.
 

BRAZIL

WORKSHOP TO CELEBRATE THE DAY OF PRAYER AND ACTION FOR CHILDREN

A worskhop counting with the participation parents of Local Marist Social Centre-Samambaia, Brasilia, DF.


Children, educators and parents gathered to celebrate DPAC. The event as organized by GNRC and Pastoral Da Criança, and with the help of GNRC Youth Brazil.

NEPAL

CONFERENCE ON VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN. Koteshwor

Around 25 youth gathered at Shanti Sewa Ashram, Koteshwor, on November 20th to discuss ‘Violence against Children’ under the close supervision of Guru Chintamani Yogi, the coordinator of Global Network of Religions for Children (GNRC) Nepal. 

 
The program was organized in conjunction wiht the Youth Society for Peace (YSP) Nepal, on the occasion of Day of Prayer and Action for Children (DPAC).

Jagannath Kandel, a dedicated GNRC Youth member, led participants in the workshop through the manual “Learning To Live Together” on the topics of “Understanding Self and Other and Transforming the World Together”.


The activity gathered student representatives of different faiths (mainly Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Muslim) from various orphanages, which illuminated a Peace Light as a symbol of world peace for  children. 
Children aged 9 to 18 shared their ideas about violence in its physical, mental, social, verbal, torture, forms, and how to prevent it.

Mr Yogi ended his speech with interfaith spiritual song about truth, love, peace, selfless service and non-violence. In addition, a video “In Search of Protection” aimed to explore the issue of child labour of Nepal.

Other Programs implemented by GNRC Youth Nepal

A Creative workshop consisting of story writing, painting, and poetry was organized at Hindu Vidyapeeth Nepal school, Lalitpur, and Dang, after a brief discussion with the students about Violence Against Children and Child Marriage.

Lastly, on Nov 22 Friday, approximately 70 adults from various walks of life residing in Kathmandu Valley gathered at Shanti Sewa Ashram, where a Peace Prayer took place, before the commencement of the Peace Light Lighting program.
